Massbuild seeks to provide more social value through youth development and building projects. Our initiatives and partnerships are as follows:
Our Projects
Ripples for Good Together with the Ripples for Good team, we identify schools and charities that require assistance within a 20km radius of our stores. Renovations to the value of R10 000 are carried out on each project and staff members play an active role to assist the team from Ripples for Good with the actual work. Upon the completion of each project, each school or charity receives a tool and garden maintenance kit for the upkeep of their facilities.
Empowerment Concepts David Patient and Neil Orr have been working in the area of community development and health for the past 20 years, through their company Empowerment Concepts. With a footprint in 19 countries, their experience in rural development is both diverse and comprehensive and they are the recipients of numerous global awards with their partner organisations. In partnership with Massbuild, Empowerment Concepts has become Corporate Social Investment Ambassadors to small underfunded Non Profit Organisations, Community based Organisations, AIDS Support organisations and numerous schools that are under resourced. They assist with general renovations, maintenance projects and feeding schemes.
MNET Cares To kick start our relationship with MNET Cares, we renovated a cottage at the St Mary's Children's Home, offering a place of safety for abandoned, neglected and orphaned children. This was our first collaboration with many more existing projects in the pipeline.
Feeding schemes Our feeding scheme project encompasses vegetable tunnels being built on school sites across South Africa. The project was launched to assist schools so that they are better able to provide the children with nutritional food to complement the government feeding programme. We have now partnered with the Food Gardens Foundation which achieves community development and social upliftment by teaching people small-scale, low-cost organic food gardening which in turn improves their health, quality of life, and empowers them to escape from the grip of poverty and helplessness by achieving a high level of household food security, self-actualization and self-employment. It is environmentally friendly and safe (no pesticides or agro-chemicals are used) and is appropriate since there are limited resources available in terms of space, water and funds. Food gardening helps the less fortunate establish an on-going means of sustainability by enabling them to produce nutritious, freshly picked, organically grown vegetables.
